Case Study: Austrade
What: Building Capability
Why:
In 2011, Austrade – the Australian Government’s trade, investment and education promotion agency – was seeking a greater focus and effectiveness of its partnering relationships through developing ‘stronger but fewer partnerships’.
Austrade initiated a major review of its partnering relationships and sought to develop a partnering framework for the organisation. This internal review found there was no consistent approach on how Austrade engaged with other organisations and there was a lot of confusion and misunderstanding around just what ‘partnering’ was or should be within the organisation.
How:
DIXON Partnering Solutions (DPS) and specifically Ian Dixon was engaged as the subject matter expert to provide business partnering advice and support to the Austrade Partnerships Project Team in the development of a partnership framework and operating model for Austrade.
As part of this engagement DPS was required to validate the project team’s analysis of its consultation process both internally and externally and to design and facilitate a workshop to validate the project recommendations with representatives of Austrade business units.
DPS commenced the engagement after the research phase and completed the engagement following the workshop and finalisation of the recommended partnering framework and operating model.
During this engagement our Principal, Ian Dixon worked closely with the project team in applying a high degree of rigour to the process by challenging and questioning the various conclusions and proposals being developed. We were able to assist in the development of a common and effective language together with a partnering framework
